Do you have what it takes to win?
Calling all artists: Come battle it out with other local and regional artists for cash and other prizes! Be part of the first annual Art War at the Salisbury Festival, an art-tastic event where artists go brush to brush while local fair-goers vote on their fate.
How the Art War will work…
Each artist will receive a 10’ x 10’ area indoors to make his or her work. (Some outdoor spaces are available, so please let us know if you have interest in being outside.) Each space will have at least one wall. The space will be equipped with a drop-cloth and basic lighting. All other needs, such as tables or chairs, must be brought by the artist.
All participating artists must bring their own materials. All types of materials will be acceptable as long as they are not hazardous, illegal, or damaging to the provided space. If you have a question about a particular material you would like to use please contact us.
The Art War is a ONE DAY event taking place on April 27th. Each artist will have five total hours during which to work. Check-in will begin at 9am when artists will be able to set up and prepare, and then at 10am art making will commence when the battle officially begins. The battle will end at 3pm, and all making must take place within that five-hour window. Finally, the winner will be announced at the 4pm awards ceremony.
The first place grand prize will be a solo exhibition of the wining artist’s work at the SU Art Galleries. Gift Certificates and cash prizes will be awarded for 2nd and 3rd places.
The Salisbury Festival visitors will be voting on their favorite works of art throughout the day. The winners will then be chosen based on which artists receive the highest number of votes.
Entering the Competition:
The Art War is open to students, as well as amateur and professional artists. All interested artists must apply by April 20, 2013. To apply artists need to submit 3-5 images of past artwork in jpg format (No higher then 2mb files), a short (paragraph or less) bio and a description of the art they plan to make during the battle, their contact information, and $20 entry fee.
