February 20 through March 21, 2015:SCREENS/New Works by Kristin Walsh will be located at SU Art Galleries Downtown Campus – 120 N. Division Street. The Reception will be held 3rd Friday, February 20, 2015 from 5p.m. to 7p.m.
These works aim to reinterpret how memories and experiences can be skewed or bent by association with an object – interpretation of experience interrupted with a knot in a column, an absence of surface or warped reflection that distorts the image rather than explicating it. Each trophy asks the viewer to encounter rather than interpret or narrate. Within this mode, each sculpture functions as a screen, a shadow, a void awaiting encounter.
Kristin Walsh graduated from University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2013 with her BFA in Sculpture and Fibers and an Art History minor. It was that year, 2013, in which she was awarded Senior of the Year in Studio Art Award as well as Outstanding Achievement Award: Sculpture Area, both of which were from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. From publications, group and solo exhibitions to her Permanent Installation: Plastic Components of Modernim, Rowe Arts Building – Charlotte, NC; Walsh’s work has been exhibited throughout North Carolina, Missouri, New York, Vermont, Texas, Iowa, Virginia, and now Maryland.
