Ursula Scherrer’s immersive video performance, afloat, creates a poetic and contemplative environment for viewers to experience time, space, light, and sound in an augmented state of being. Like invisible brush strokes, Scherrer uses multiple projectors to draw floating images of painterly quality that approach and drift by, stay and mutate, and allow the viewer to be taken on a dreamlike voyage, accompanied by the live sounds of percussionist Brian Chase and bassist Kato Hideki. The videos are projected onto fabrics hanging from the ceiling, creating a labyrinth of color, shapes, and movement. You are invited to enter Scherrer’s realm for any length of time, to walk around, sit or lie down.
