Hochberg paints animals, realistically rendered, at times isolated and other times in environments. These creatures are a platform to explore qualities of familiarity and strangeness as well as the knowable and the mysterious. While many of these works are made alone in the studio, Hochberg also works on site in residency situations, collaboratively and across disciplines. Regardless of format or working methods, these animals are presented in a way that brings their inherent underlying strangeness to the forefront.
