Join us for the first ever Youth Summer Installation Workshop offered by the SU Art Galleries in Downtown Salisbury. Each fun filled day will include activities that promote creative thinking and play with materials, as well as guest speakers and plenty of time to create. We invites artists ages 6 – 12 to join us for a week–long workshop providing foundations in abstractand conceptual art specifically designed for young artists. We will explore the ways in which nature, sound, and space can be combined with painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation. Students will end the workshop with a 3rd Friday exhibition and reception taking place in the same installation space they create throughout the week.
The workshop will run August 14th – 18th, 9am to 2pm each day. Guest artists and topics include: Corinne Beardsley (installation), Eric Shuster (sound), and Lisa Garfield (fiber arts). The workshop will be lead by local artist, Christy Cox, with assistance from Ana Krider. Lunch will be provided daily by MayaBella’s Pizza.
The workshop is located at SU Art Galleries Downtown, Plaza Level in the Gallery Building, at 212 West Main Street in Downtown Salisbury. Free 2-hour parking is available in the lot on Market Street.
All 5 senses will be activated through our unique projects, some of which include: driftwood sculpture, tapestry dying, abstract drawing, color drumming, painting through sound and directly on the walls, and installation!
This program will give young artists the opportunity to create using natural and traditional art materials in a one-of-a-kind space.
