Material PLAY

June 28 – September 8, 2019 | University Gallery in Fulton Hall

Opening Reception: Friday, June 28th 5 – 7pm

Material Play is a group exhibition of works that explore the tangible possibilities of objects and their make-up. Introducing wonder and complexity to the processes of designing, making and using, the works put forth ideas on the relationship between the object and its material(s) in a pleasurable and stimulating way. From recognizable organic and inorganic objects used in everyday life to non-functional forms of once-functional materials, the works inevitably bring to mind an overarching and temporal relationship between human and nature from which some of these materials are derived. This relationship has a profound connection to the meaning of objects, as well as the function and value imbued upon them. The works in the exhibit by Gulsah Mursaloglu, Woomin Kim, Nathan Randall Green and Jordann Wine all provide an intimate, playful and problematizing look to it through a palpable and imagined sensory experience, delivered through the wondrous textures, colors, transformations and dialogues.
