John Mosher: Curiosities

mosher_ephemera_phosphene3.jpg

“As I closed my eyes, I saw a memory from the day fragmented and rearranged – some sort of Ephemera. Layered on top of that, amorphous forms floated across my field of vision. These Phosphenes were like clouds quickly moving across a sky. This stratosphere would appear and disappear, often accompanied by a word or phrase that had little to do with the vision.”

Inspired in part by scientific illustrations from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as experiential visual phenomena,  "Curiosities" envisions the artist as a scientist or archaeologist collecting specimens from the imagined world rather than the natural one.
