SU Art Galleries is pleased to invite you to On Water, a group exhibition that brings together photographic explorations of water and its role in our perception of and interactions with the world. Through their respective processes within the photographic medium, artists Liz Donadio, Jay Gould, Matthew Moore and Anastasia Samoylova pose significant environmental and socio-cultural questions, and put forth the ubiquity of the molecule as one that is at once romanticized, stylized, threatened and feared.
The exhibition will be open to visitors during Folk Festival weekend. A public reception will take place at 5:00 pm on Friday, September 20th.
As part of exhibition programming, artists Liz Donadio and Matthew Moore will lead a photography workshop on campus on September 20th, 12-4 pm in Conway 352. Participants will explore the analog to digital workflow using advanced scanning, editing, and printing techniques in order to produce fine-art digital prints. The workshop is free but please reserve your spot by e-mailing mxlelic (at) salisbury.edu by September 16th.
Following the reception with the artists on Friday, September 20th, SU Art Galleries, with support from the Salisbury University Environmental Studies Department, will present a program of 16mm short films, curated by Dr. Ryan Conrath. The screening will start at 7:30 pm at SU Art Galleries | Downtown. Stay tuned for the full program.
On Thursday, October 17th, Anastasia Samoylova will give a talk and sign copies of her book, FloodZone. Floodzone is a photographic account of life on the climatic knife-edge of the southern United States. Sea levels are rising and hurricanes threaten, but this is not a visualization of disaster or catastrophe. These beautifully subtle and often unsettling images capture the mood of waiting, of knowing the climate is changing, of living with it.
